Match Trivia
The League match between these teams was played at Ibrox Park before 20,000 spectators, the gate drawing being £484. The Rangers played in the first half with the wind in their favour, and from the outset they had the better of their opponents. The Hearts however should have scored first, Drummond taking advantage of slackness on Michael’s part and clearing his goal. From a good run on the left Campbell opened the scoring, while the same player shortly after got a second heading through a nice centre of Hamilton’s. The Hearts forwards then gave a sample of their ability, and for fifteen minutes they fairly outplayed the opposing defence. Baird got their first goal from Taylor pass, and he had had luck in not getting another. Just on halftime Hamilton shot a lovely goal for his side, the Rangers leading by 3 to 1 at the interval. The opening stages of the second half saw the Rangers in fine form, and after a goal had been disallowed the Hearts for offside, the Rangers played grand football, and Hamilton shot another grand goal after a characteristic run. The last half hour of the game went entirely in favour of the Hearts, who were unlucky in losing. Michael scored a second goal, and through a mistake of N Smith’s Taylor got a third with a long shot. Baird, Livingstone and Walker all missed easy chances, but throughout their thirty minutes pressing the Hearts failed to get the equaliser, and retired beaten unluckily by 4 goals to 3
