Match Trivia
Played on the ground of the Third Lanark, in weather far too warm for football. There was a magnificent attendance over 16,000 being present, the money drawn at the gate coming to £347, and at the stands £34. The game throughout was splendidly contested, and although the Rangers won by five goals to one, the Third Lanark had much more of the play than the score indicates. Indeed the Third towards the close of the game, sorely pressed their opponents, who were only saved by the dashing goalkeeping of Dickie. Besides it must be remembered that the Third had two goals disallowed. The scoring ones stated 15 minutes from the start, Campbell close in sending the ball through, and this was followed by A Smith getting the second from a free kick on the 12 yards line, the score at halftime being 2 to 0. Shortly after the restart of the second half Miller scored the third and Campbell the fourth, neatly heading the ball through from a corner kick. A penalty against N Smith gave the Third their only goal, Davidson scoring. Hyslop scored the fifth and last for the Rangers in a game which gave general satisfaction. The Third have got together a well-balanced team, and should give a good account of themselves during the season
