Match Trivia
Glasgow went off with a rush on resuming, and Forced a corner in the first half minute, and then McPherson struck the side of the rigging. Oswald then had a chance of a lifetime, but sent high over the bar at six yards’range. The pace continued a cracker, and the Rangers tried desperately hard to score, but they seemed to follow the Saints lead for a time, and were weak in shooting. At length, from a mighty kick by Meechan, Wood shot hard, and Dickie only partly cleared. A regular bully ensured in front of the Rangers goal, but a couple of corners only resulted. These were got away, and then the Rangers passing right across from wing to wing, Robinson only partially cleared from McPherson, and Oswald being up, put into the net. Yet another opportunity of scoring was missed by the Saints, and after Robinson had been called on by Campbell, Seeley, who had been playing the best game of his life, sent in a clinker, which Dickie cleared marvellously. After a neat by of work by Seeley, Haynes, and Wood, Chadwick took a long pot, which skimmed the bar. Haynes repeated the dose a minute later, and the Saints had desperately hard lines in not equalising. Robinson then brought off a save in truly International style, picking up the ball from the feet of Oswald. A minute later Robinson again had to save, and then McLean forced a corner, and Stevens lost the best chance of the day, from a centre by Seeley. The Saints pressed well up to the close, and there was a lot of kicking out in the last five minutes of the game. There was no more scoring, and the Rangers won a great game by a goal to nil.
