Match Trivia
The second holiday match in Edinburgh took place at Logie Green between the above teams in the First Division Scottish League. The weather was dull, and there were fully 8000 spectators present. Saints played McKenzie, a Leith free transfer, and Buchanan took Wood’s place at back, while the Rangers played Crawford for Smith. In the first half the Rangers pressed for the greater part of the time, and after full twenty-five minutes play Smith opened the scoring for the visitors. The Saints forwards play, which had been of an indifferent nature during the early part of the game, now worked much better, and although telling shots were sent in by Lee and Ritchie, they failed to find the net, and at halftime the Rangers led by 1 goal to nothing. The play in the second half was of an exciting nature, both goals being in evident danger, but none of the teams could find an opening. Eventually a penalty kick fell to the Rangers, and Neil taking the kick registered a second point. The Saints now made strenuous efforts to score, and Crawford and Drummond had their work cut out to keep them at bay. The play in the last stage continued on exciting lines and the game ended – Rangers 2 goals: St Bernards 0. The gate was £240 and the stand realised £40.
