Match Trivia
Played at Ibrox before a small attendance. The game had an auspicious opening, the Rangers bearing down on McGinn almost from the kick-off, and through Goudie placing themselves a goal up. By degrees the Clyde relieved themselves from the attentions of the home men, and took up the aggressive, and their efforts were attended with better results a nice delivery by their latest recruit, McNab finding its way past Dickie. Open play followed, and then Clyde, through McNab again got off, and to the delight of their followers secured a second leading goal, Campbell being the executants this time with a neatly accomplished shot from close quarters. This additional reverse seemed to nettle the ground men, who now set to with a will and fairly bombarded the Clyde goal. Their attack was too warm to last long without result, and it came as no surprise when McPherson placed his side on a level. Neil Kerr had all the honour of this point, as it was a splendid shot of his from near midfield that gave McPherson the opportunity to score. McPherson added a third goal. Halftime result – Rangers 3: Clyde 2. The second half had almost a similar opening to the first, the Rangers securing a goal in the first minute or so. The point was the result of a combined rush by the inside front men, and was taken by Oswald, who let drive at an opportune time. A fifth goal soon followed the fourth, and it was Oswald again who touched the leather last, his shot being a rasping one from 15 yards out. McPherson had to retire about 10 minutes from time, owing to a nasty knock, but despite this heavy handicap the Rangers continued to besiege the Clyde goal. Once or twice the Clyde wakened up and worked their way towards Dickie, but their efforts were now seldom dangerous, and the home defenders had little difficulty in keeping their charge clear. In the closing minute however a break away by the entire front division gave them a third goal. Result – Rangers 5: Clyde 3.
