Match Trivia

The rangers enhanced their position in the Glasgow League competition by defeating the Barrowfield representatives at Ibrox Park last night by four goals to nil. Drummond, A McCreadie and J McPherson were absent from the home ranks, their places being ably filled by Glen, Jackson and McNicol. The Clyde seem to have had considerable difficulty in organising a team, and the eleven which took the field was composed principally of junior and second-eleven players. It was long odds against the Clyde from the very start, and the Rangers had all the best of the exchanges and fairly revelled in tricky work. The visitors lost two goals early in the game, but at this stage they had only nine men on the field. At half-time the Rangers led by four goals to nil. The visitors did much better in the second half as the Rangers failed to score. Wilkie saved several fine shots, two of these from Miller and Gibson being splendidly held. The backs were a bit lucky at times, but considering that McDonald is a left-winger in the second eleven and had to partner Muir in this position the team did not do so badly. All over it was to the light side, and with such a strong defence to face the forwards could make little impression. Leslie and Revie did well at time, and Paterson, Gardner and Wilkie were the pick of the defence. The Rangers have promising recruits in Jackson and McNicol, and Glen’s play was faultless.
