Match Trivia

Losing the toss the Rangers kicked off towards the east goal. A fine effort by Miller was the first feature of the game. He dodged round Hogg and passed over to Hyslop, who carried the ball well up and centred it. Oswald might have got it, but he allowed it to travel to Crawford, who mad no mistake, and with a clinking shot he scored the first goal for the Rangers. After this reverse the Hearts made an effort to equalise, and Gillies had a try, which missed by inches. A Smith got the ball, and with a smart shot he record the second goal for the Rangers. The Hearts were no match for the superior tactics of their nimble opponents. The play of the Rangers was a perfect treat to witness, and one of the neatest bit of lay led up to Oswald scoring their third goal. Halftime result – Rangers 3 goals: Hearts 0. After the interval the Hearts, who reorganised their team, were first to show to advantage, and ere going long they obtained a corner, which came to nothing. The Dickie saved grandly from a scrimmage. A return by N Smith gave miller an opportunity of opening up play, which he did to some advantage. Taking the whole front rank with him, they simply rush on the ball through Hyslop giving it the final touch. Four goals for the Rangers. Hearts tried hard to improve their position, but score they could not. Corners at each end came in rapid succession, but all were useless. Fairbairn seven many shots, and but for he and Adams the score against the Hearts would have been a record one. A sharp shot by Miller got the fifth goal for the Rangers, the ball going through off one of the Hearts backs. Result – Rangers 5 goals: Hearts 0 goals.
