Match Trivia
Played at Barrowfield Park, the ground was very heavy, and all against good play. Losing the toss the Rangers kicked off. Clyde left wing Crawford and Leslie got off with the ball, but they were successfully tackled by Marshall. McCreadie and Oswald were next prominent, but Ross spoiled their chance by putting the ball over the line. A free kick for the Clyde at midfield gave an opening, and R Crawford tried a shot, which N Smith cleared with a header. Then the Rangers had another foul, but McPherson shot went past. Another free kick for the Clyde gave them a rare chance, which they too advantage of, Leslie passed to R Crawford, who shot and as Gray attended to Yuille, the ball landed in the net. First goal for Clyde. The Rangers made a determined effort to get on equality, but they met by a stubborn defence. An accident to Ross and Gardner of the Clyde at this stage caused both men to retire. The Rangers of course pressed heavily after this. They go several corners, but all were fruitless. At last one from A Smith was effective, Stewart heading it into the net, thus equalising the game. Halftime – Clyde 1: Rangers 1. On resuming the game Ross turned out for the Clyde. The Rangers had the first look in, but a strong punt by Paterson transferred play to the other end. Here Leslie tried a shot, but Yuille was equal to the occasion. Still the Clyde kept on the aggressive and at last their efforts were rewarded. A fine shot by Gray was fisted out by Yuille, but R Crawford got on the ball and scored the second goal for the Clyde. The nature of the ground was evidently telling on the play of the Rangers, as they were most erratic in their movements. They pilled themselves together, and a nice piece of passing between McPherson and Marshall enabled A Smith to again equalise the score. Final result – a draw 2 goals each.
