Match Trivia

Rangers won the toss, and selected to lay with the wind, which was blowing nearly straight down the field at their back. The home men pressed first, but the Rangers retaliated and tried the Boghead defence sorely. The game continued very fast, and although the Rangers kept hanging around the home goal, they could not get the ball into the net. Dumbarton against the wind were working hard, and playing better football than the Rangers, but Smith kept them at bay. When halftime was called no goals had been scored. Resuming play, Dumbarton at once took up the running, and Bell had to save. The Dumbarton men showed some nice but fruitless play, and the pressure was relieved. Keeping up however, Dumbarton were not to be repulsed, and Woods getting an opening, banged the ball through. The Rangers now settled down to a nice passing game and took the play in hand. Gibson missed a second half penalty. About a minute before time the Rangers at last found their opening, and the equalising goal was put on. No more goals were scored, and a very fast and exciting game ended in a draw – 1 goal each.
