Fully 6000 spectators witnessed this match at Ibrox Park. The Hibernian started the game with a slight wind against them. Mitchell sent the ball to McPherson, who shot, but the ball struck the cross bar and rebounded into play. Oswald was however, at hand and scored for the Rangers. A run by Smith and Murray nearly had the desired effect, but N Smith recovered, and play was again in the vicinity of McColl, Barker tried a hot, but McFarlane blocked. Then Ferguson passed by Kennedy, but Bell saved. Oswald and McPherson were next prominent, but ere they got within shooting distance Breslin intercepted a pass. Still the Rangers pressed and in saving a shot by A Smith Robertson conceded a corner. The ball was well placed, but Murphy got it away. A visit from the Hibs to the other end followed, and Bell had to fist out a shot from Neil. Drummond returned and a shot by McPherson struck the crossbar. Still the Rangers pressed and McColl twice had to throw out. A corner for the Rangers followed, and the ball was passed by A Smith to Oswald who scored. A long shot by McPherson landed in the net. Three goals to nothing in favour of the Rangers was the result at halftime. On resuming the Rangers, off McFarlane, obtained a corner. Barker cut it too fine, and the ball struck the net on the back of the post. Murray and Kennedy got off, and Drummond saved by kicking out. A raid by the Rangers followed, and again McColl conceded a corner, but nothing came of it. A low shot by Smith nearly too effect, Bell saving just on the line. This was followed by a combined run, taken parting by Oswald, McPherson and A Smith. McFarlane got in however, and nicked the ball from Smith’s foot. Another run by the Hibs right wing was productive of a tussle between Drummond and Kennedy, from which the latter shot, but the ball went past. A corner for the Hibs was saved by Marshall. Ten minutes before the close McPherson scored a fourth goal for Rangers. Result – Rangers 4 goals: Hibernian nil.
