Match Trivia
Played on the ground of the Thistle at Whiteinch, before the largest crowd there this season. Losing the toss, the Thistle kicked off, and the home forwards joining in a fine run were soon in the vicinity of Montgomery, who saved from Freebairn. The Rangers then got away, and Smith the home custodian, was tested by Cowan. By means of smart passing play the Rangers paid a second visit to Thistle territory, but Campbell intercepted, and with a strong kick sent the ball down the field, where the forwards sent behind. At the other end Boyd was next conspicuous, and a shot from that players caused Smith some trouble to keep his goal safe. The Thistle broke away again and gradually worked the ball down the field. The ball was passed and re-passed in front of goal, and eventfully Wilkie beat Montgomery with a splendid shot 20 minutes from the start. Halftime result – Partick Thistle 1: Rangers 0. On resuming hostilities the Thistle went away at a brisk pace, Campbell making capital headway until brought up by Marshall. A pass from centre enabled McPherson to get away, and it looked as if he would score, but not so this time, the defence of the Partick Thistle proving invincible. Ten minutes from the close a shot by Smith took effect, but the point was disallowed, the referee stating that the ball was fisted through. The Rangers were having slightly the best of matters, and continued to hover round the Thistle goal without avail. Result – Partick Thistle 1 goal: Rangers 0.
