Match Trivia
These teams met at West Craigie Park, the ground of the new combination, before a large turnout of spectators, notwithstanding an increased charge for admission. Although the day was exceptionally warm play was fast from the outset. The famed light blues set down to work at the commencement, but Dundee tackled with remarkable determination. For a time hostilities were chiefly confined to the stranger’s territory and Haddow was repeatedly called on to save his charge. Dundee returned to the attack time after time, and Keiller sent the ball through, but to the chagrin of local supporters he was ruled offside. The Rangers then broke away, and Gray scored twice within five minutes. When before halftime he notched a third, while the Dundee failed to do anything further, it looked as if the local team would get a severe drubbing. On changing ends, however matters were very much reversed. The front row of the strangers played determinedly, but without combination. Dundee left wing put in some very clever work, and Keiller taking advantage of a fine pass from Thomson notched a second point. McKie saved several beauties with great tact, and the pressure having been relieved, play was transferred to the other end, where Dundee rushed the ball through, and thus equalised. In the time remaining both sides played hard for the winning point, but nothing further was done and the game ended in a draw – 3 goals each.
