Match Trivia
Played at Ibrox Park, Govan before a meagre attendance. Having lost the toss, the Rangers kicked off. Clark tipped the ball to Kerr, who only went a few yards when Gourlay stopped his further progress. A run by Walsh and Vance brought the Annbank within range of Haddow, but Gow was there and spoiled their chances. Fitzsimmons in goal was getting plenty of work, but he did it well. Shots from all the Rangers forwards were successfully turned aside. From a free kick the Annbank got well into their opponenets territory, and Haddow had some smart work to look after. The Rangers were having much the best of the play, and had their shooting been anything like accurate they would have scored several times. Halftime result – Rangers 0: Annbank 0. The teams crossed over without leaving the field. Rangers were early prominent, a shot by Clark nearly beating Fitzsimmons. To save his charge he conceded a corner, but the ball was safely piloted away. The Rangers were not to be denied, however, and Barker accepting a pass from Mitchell made tracks for the goal. He centred beautifully, and Kerr got the pass. With a swift low shot he beat Fitzsimmons, thus registering the first goal for the Rangers. Two minutes later the same player, from a pass by H McCreadie scored a second goal with a long shot, which struck one of Annbank’s backs in its passage to the goal. Play was now confined almost entirely to Annbank’s territory, and when H McCreadie put on the third goal for the Rangers it looked as if the Annbank would get a severe drubbing. Final result – Rangers 7 goals: Annbank 0.
