Match Trivia

Played at Ibrox Park, Govan before 4000 spectators. A strong wind blew from the east, which made matters very uncomfortable for the spectators. The St Mirren lost the toss, and Brown kicked off against the strong breeze. The opening passages of the game were rather lame, the teams taking some time to settle down. Haddow was first called upon to save a shot from Shaw, which he easily managed. The Rangers then took up the running, and pressed their opponents severely. Time after time they should have scored, nearly the whole of their front division and also there half’s having a try. The shooting was wretched, however, and the defence of the Saints above the average. Towards the close of the first half the game opened up a bit, and the Saints had a look in. Their left wing Shaw and McLean, made tracks for Haddow, but ere they got his length Gow stopped their progress. Halftime result – Rangers 0 goals: St Mirren 0 goals. After the interval the teams played up with renewed energy. Each strove hard to put the leading point, but neither could find an opening. Haddow and Patrick were visited in turn, but both proved equal to all the calls made on them. The Rangers had most of the play, and lost many chances. They got several corner kicks, but all were pointless. The game was most uninteresting. Just before the close the Saints put on a spurt and obtained three corners in as many minutes, but nothing came off them. No scoring was done on either side. For the Rangers, Drummond, Marshall, Mitchell and J McPherson were best; while Patrick, Crawford, McBain, Shaw, Wylie and Brash were always in evidence for the Saints. Final result – A draw – no goals.
