Match Trivia
Played at Cowlairs, the Rangers it will be seen were at full strength, but Cowlairs were without McGee, and this caused a rearrangement of the team, McPherson going to his old position at half, while Buist was tried at centre. The Rangers loss the toss, and Kerr kicked off. The Rangers pressed on starting, and their superiority was most pronounced, despite the fact that they had the wind in their faces. Hislop got close in, and almost beat Duff, but McCartney came to the rescue, and with a good kick relieved. The visitors fastened on, and clever passing brought the ball into Cowlairs territory. In returning a hard shot from Henderson, McLeod kicked the ball against that player, and it rebounded through the goal, Duff having no chance to save. The game became more open, and Cowlairs were seen to more advantage. Elliot sent in a magnificent long shot, which Reid stopped, and following this a free kick at the Rangers goal raised their hopes of drawing level. Hislop intercepted McLeod’s kick, and passing out, a break away was attempted, but Cowlairs cut short the projected attack, and the ball went out close to Reid. The Rangers succeeded in getting the ball past Duff a second time, but Hislop was adjudged offside, a decision which was perfectly fair. At halftime the score stood – Rangers 1 Cowlairs 0. Cowlairs opened out on restarting, but were forced back, and a corner fell to their opponents, McPherson relieved. Clever passing brought the Rangers within range of Duff, and a free kicked aided their progress. Hislop caught the ball on his head, and it was sent past Duff for the second time. The game ended – Rangers 2 goals: Cowlairs 0 goals
