Match Trivia
In beautiful weather, and before a good crowd, the Rangers and the Abercorn fulfilled their League fixture at Ibrox Park. The Rangers were at full strength, but the Abercorn were without Johnstone, their right halfback. A quarter of an hour late, Cree kicked off for the Abercorn, who had to face the strong sunshine, Bonnar and Buchanan forced Hodge to concede a corner, which came to nothing, the ball being sent behind. Keeping up the spirited attack, Bowie nearly scored for Abercorn with a well judged long shot. The Rangers made fitful effort to get away, but the Abercorn were having all the best of the game so far. A combined attack by the Rangers resulted in McCreadie shooting the first goal after 25 minutes play. The Abercorn protested, but the referee allowed the point. Two minutes later, from a timely return by Gow, McCreadie passed the ball across the goalmouth, and Henderson shot it through amidst loud cheering. The Rangers were now playing in spirited dashing form, and severly taxed the Abercorn defence, which was very steady under the circumstances. At halftime the score was – Rangers 2 Abercorn 0. on restarting, McPherson had hard lines in not increasing the Rangers score with a clinking shot, the ball hitting the crossbar and rebounding into play with great force. The Rangers were fairly Fleming in the Abercorn, and Fleming had his work cut out for him, there being a want of combination all round. McPherson eluding the Abercorn backs, had a clear field, and after dribbling close up to Fleming shot, but the ball struck the Abercorn’s custodian, and was thus prevented from going through. Towards the close, Fleming saved a hot shot. The result was – Rangers 2 goals: Abercorn 0
