Match Trivia

Benefit Match. A match was played on Brockville Park, Falkirk last night between a team of Glasgow Players under the title of Rangers Ibroxonians and team representing the Falkirk District. The proceeds of the match were for the benefit of the funds of the Laurieston FC. The weather was excellent and there was a large attendance of spectators. In the first half the District team played down hill, and they gave the Ibroxonians their own work to do, Chalmers in the fist 20 minutes getting more work than McMartin. The number of corners were about equal. About 25 minutes after the start, McPherson sent a swift shot in from the left, which Britton headed past McMartin – drawing first blood. McPherson (half-back) two minutes afterwards sent in a swift shot, which McMartin kicked at but failed to reach. After the start again, Chalmers had twice to show great dexterity from a shot by Dunn. Twice shots were sent over the bar. Then the Rangers made up field, and bothered the District defence. A long shot came in to McMartin, which he only got partly away, and Wilkie scored the third goal. Two minutes after Gow scored a fourth goal, and when the ball had been carried down to the Rangers goal, half-time was called the score standing - Rangers 4 goals; Falkirk District 0. As the game was only an hour’s duration, it was immediately resumed, and the Rangers commenced to press very severely. Three minutes had only gone when McIntyre scored the fifth goal for his side. A sixth goal was got through McBean hustling Ritchie and McMartin when a shot was coming in. For the first portion of the second half the Rangers forwards passed to each other like clockwork, and their back division kept the home forwards from nearing Chalmers. Towards the close, however Falkirk District managed u, but with the exception of a good shot from Reid and one from Dunn, the shooting was wild. One at least should have been got through, the ball being on the line, with three of the home team beside it, but luck was against them. About seven or eight minutes from time Kadie had to leave the field, owing to getting his leg hurt. No more scoring took place, but a swift shot by Simpson might have taken effect had it not been kept out by a hand, for which a free kick was granted. The final result was – Rangers Ibroxonians 6 goals; Falkirk District 0
