Match Trivia
The Blackburn Rovers paid a visit to Glasgow to meet the Rangers at Kinning Park. There being no other match of importance in the city there was crowded attendance, the grand stand being filled and the ropes crowded two or three deep. The strangers kicked off and for some time the Rangers had much the better of the game, pressing the Rovers somewhat severely. Eventually the Englishmen made a raid upon the Scotch territory and by a lucky shot ? the bar, the ball going under. The Rangers played with greater determination then ever and made several assaults at the English goal but again luck attended their opponents because in another raid – ten minutes after the first – they scored a second goal, Gillespie falling and so could not evade a somewhat ? shot. Nothing daunted the Rangers played well up and in the course of a scrimmage, which had followed a free kick near the English goal they put the ball under. The Rovers protested but on appeal to the referee the point was allowed. Quite evidently the ball was about half a yard through the posts when the custodian punted it out. The game after this was of a very give-and-take nature and nothing more was done until halftime. In the second period the Rangers had still the better of the game play being mostly in English territory, but eventually luck again attended the Englishmen because as the result of several attacks a third goal was scored by them. It looked bad for the Scotchmen, but at length success attended their effort and they scored a pretty goal. After this the match was evenly contested and nothing further was done, the game ending in favour of the Blackburn Rovers by three goals to two. The Rovers showed fully that they understood football and the Rangers have got together a very promising eleven
