Season Summary 1947 - 48

Season 1947-48 saw Rangers resume the fierce rivalry they had developed with Hibs following the end of the Second World War.
The Edinburgh side had been runners-up to the Light Blues in the League Championship the previous season with Bill Struth's men taking the title by only two points.
This time the roles were reversed. Rangers and Hibs battled from the opening day of the season to the last and in the clashes between the clubs, Rangers won 2-1 at Ibrox with Hibs victorious by the only goal at Easter Road.
But it was Hibs who finished on top this time by two points gaining revenge for the previous season.
Rangers supporters did have plenty of consolation, however. In the league the Light Blues defeated Celtic 2-0 at Ibrox and then crushed their 'Old Firm' rivals 4-0 at Parkhead.
In addition, there was the little matter of three trophies won to be pleased about.
In the Scottish Cup, Rangers disposed of Stranraer (1-0), Leith Athletic (4-0), Partick Thistle (3-0), East Fife (1-0) and then Hibs in the semi-final, thanks to a Willie Thornton goal at Hampden in front of 143,570 fans.
Their opponents in the final were Morton and the teams drew 1-1, forcing a replay, which Rangers won 1-0 thanks to a dramatic late goal in extra-time by young Billy Williamson.
The Glasgow Cup was lifted thanks to a 4-1 success over Third Lanark in the final and Rangers completed a treble of cups by beating Celtic 2-0 at Hampden in the Charity Cup Final.
There was disappointment in the League Cup, however. After knocking out Celtic in the qualifying stage, Rangers lost 1-0 to Falkirk in the semi-final at Hampden.
Rangers players capped for Scotland were George Young, Willie Thornton, Willie Woodburn, Jock Shaw, Sam Cox, Torry Gillick and Jimmy Duncanson.
