Founded in 2000 by chairman David Murray, the Rangers Hall of Fame was the first of its kind in British football. A mahogany panel above the famous marble staircase at Ibrox displays every name. From 2001 onwards, the fans have had the power to nominate players.
In 2000, Glasgow Rangers Football Club founded its esteemed Hall of Fame to pay tribute to the club's most legendary players. Rangers were the first club in Britain to establish a Roll of Honour for former players, with a mahogany panel above the famous marble staircase at Ibrox assigned to display the names of those inducted.
The club was initially responsible for selecting the inductees. However, from 2001 onwards, the power to nominate players was entrusted to the fans — involving the passionate and loyal supporters of Glasgow Rangers in the selection process.
The first member elected was Moses McNeil, one of the four founders of Rangers Football Club, who helped establish the club at Kelvingrove Park in March 1872. Moses McNeil also became the first Rangers player to represent Scotland internationally, in 1876.
