A tall, gangly, red headed striker, Erik Bo Andersen would make the first of his 17 starts for Rangers during a televised 2-0 league win over Hibernian at Easter Road on March 3rd, 1996.
There were high hopes that Andersen could emulate the success of his compatriot, Brian Laudrup. He certainly did not have the grace or elegance of Laudrup. Whilst Brian appeared to glide across the pitch with ease, Erik's running style was quickly likened to 'bambi on ice'. That said, when given the opportunity to run in behind defences and stretch those long legs he was more than effective and his finishing was decent. The defensive nature of opposing teams playing at Ibrox did not often allow those attributes to prosper.
Including substitute appearances, Erik would appear 34 times primarily during what were our eighth and ninth successive Championship winning seasons.
Unquestionably, his double in the 1997 New Year fixture versus Celtic would be considered an absolutely crucial moment in our quest for 'nine-in-a-row'. Erik came off the substitute's bench at Ibrox to score two late goals as a Rangers side depleted by illness rallied to win 3-1. His contribution was therefore more than meaningful.
In all, Erik scored 18 goals which represented a more than decent return for a player who never quite managed to establish himself as a starting XI player.
