Andrew Kennedy (1982 to 1984)
Under the management of John Greig, the pacy striker broke into the Rangers first team at just 17 years of age when he made his debut in a League Cup Section victory over Airdrie on 18th August 1982.
He would feature as a substitute in the same competition just three days later as Rangers defeated Clydebank 4-0 at Kilbowie. Andy’s first league appearance also came via the bench, another 4-0 win this time against Motherwell at Ibrox.
One week prior to Christmas 1982, Andy embarked on a run of 12 consecutive league starts wearing the famous number 9 jersey during which time he netted a goal against Dundee United and a double versus Morton. He also scored in the Scottish Cup victory over Falkirk at Brockville.
The arrival of Sandy Clark limited Andy’s appearances towards the end of that debut season and with Ally McCoist, Davie Mitchell and Bobby Williamson all signing over the next twelve months opportunities were restricted under Jock Wallace.
Andy would go on to have a successful career in England playing for a number of teams including Birmingham City, Blackburn Rovers and Watford before later returning to Rangers in a coaching capacity with the Soccer Schools, both in Scotland and in North America where he was based for many years.
