Match Trivia
Fully 15,000 spectators were at Ibrox Park where these teams met. The ground was fast and a slight westerly breeze blew towards the pavilion. The Saints kicked off, and Kyle immediately after got possession of the ball and passed it to Smith, who dribbled ahead and finished by shooting past. The Saints by clever wing play, in which Hall and McPherson shone quickly, transferred play to the Rangers goal, where Sinclair, who was severely tested, saved brilliantly. A run by the home forwards ended disastrously for McColl, who fell over Crawford, and dislocated an arm. With ten men the Rangers assisted by Sinclair’s superb goalkeeping held their own and crossed over on level terms with their opponenets. Halftime – No scoring. On resuming the home team played with such refreshing vigour that the visitor forwards could not get settling down. Occasionally they got the length of Sinclair, who saved grand tries from Wright and Wyllie. Smith got the better of Jackson and Crawford kicked into touch for safety. From the throw-in Stark beat Rae with a long shot, which landed the ball in the far corner of the net. It was a capital struggle to the end, and Rangers finished winners. Result – Rangers 1 goal: St Mirren 0. Drawings £413.
