Rangers showed wonderful football on a sodden ground last night, when they over-run Queen’s Park at Ibrox Park. While the opening portion was quite exciting and productive of brilliant shooting by either side, the Amateurs were no match for the league champions in the closing ‘forty-five’. In fact, things became farcical. Suffice it to say that McPhail spread the play whole Cunningham put in some telling shooting. Queen’s Park’s defence ‘enjoyed’ a sore time – Harkness had no chance with any of the goals. Chalmers had Hampden’s first try, which Hamilton saved; then sparkling work on the Rangers right finished with Archibald crossing a perfect ball, and Fleming ‘heading’ home. This in the fifth minute. After Nicholson had tested Hamilton with a rocket shot, Morton raced to the other end, where his beautiful cross was turned past Harkness by Fleming. McPhail opened out for the Ibrox confederacy, and five minutes later he ran through to register number three. McAlpine ‘gingered’ up Queen’s Park’s attack and McBain headed just over as Harkness fisted a dangerous lob from Nicholson. Rangers got down again, and Harkness was powerless to stop a regular Cunningham screamer. On the interval Gray put through his own goal. Turned round rarely did ‘QP’ trouble seriously Hamilton, and in the tenth minute Fleming won in a tussle with Gilliespie to place the ball well out of Harkness’s reach. A Morton scorcher was brilliantly turned out, but Harkness had no chance a few minutes later. Morton crossed for Fleming to head into the net. Archibald brought out the ‘we are even’ saying, and Cunningham notched number eight. Queen’s Park raided occasionally, but Gray and McCandless were equal to everything that came their way
