Match Trivia
This match, which is the first occasion the teams have met for four seasons, was played at Nottingham on Saturday. The Forest had their cup-tie team in the field excepting Lindley, who could not get away from Cambridge, his place being taken by J Irons, an ex-Queen’s Park man. The visitors were fully represented, and a good game ensured. The visitors before starting were photographed on the ground. Both teams met with a good reception, there being about 200 spectators present. The Forest won the toss, and Heggie started at 3.05. The home team commenced well, and were conceded two corners in quick succession, and Irons put in some good shots, which were well stopped by Chalmers. The ball was however got away, and Unwin fouled close to goal. From the free kick the ball was put out, the Rangers making a good run, and Caborn kicked out. Billyeald next fouled close to goal, but Hancock headed away, and Unwin and Irons made a good run the former finishing with a clever shot, which Chalmers saved well at the expense of a corner. The Rangers by good passing now confined the play in the Forest quarters, but the Forest defence was too strong to get through, Caborn and Hancock defending well. Unwin however, relieved the pressure, and McHardy robbed him in front of goal. Leighton pounced on the ball but Hume put it outside. From the corner, which was well placed Chalmers, had some difficulty in saving and Irons, who nearly scored, returned the ball. Norman next put in a good shot, but Chalmers saved. The reds continued to press their opponents, though the visitors by good passing had a look in. Peacock however shot outside. From the goal kick the Forest forwards made an unsuccessful attempts on the Scotch goal, Fox just shooting outside. The reds had hard lines at this time immediately in front of goal, and from a scrimmage Hume was compelled to give a corner. The visitors however, broke away and Luntley had some difficulty to save a shot of Heggie. The game was here stopped for halftime no goals having been scored. On resuming play both teams showed good form. The Forest had two fouls close to goal and Unwin put in a good shot, which was well saved by McHardy. Pringle had a capital chance to score but failed. Directly after from a throw-in by McIntyre, Pringle registered the first point for the Rangers 15 minutes after starting. The visitors now had the best of the contest their forwards playing a splendid game, and seven minutes later McKenzie scored from a scrimmage. The Forest who were playing in a loose way, now woke up, and thirteen minutes from time after a good run by Leighton and Unwin the latter player centred, and Fox beat the visitors. Directly after Unwin scored a second goal equalising the score. Both teams played well but at call of time nothing further had happened, and the game resulted in a tie of two goals each. The Forest team played a much better game than they have done for sometime. After the match the Rangers were entertained by the Forest to dinner at the Maypole Hotel. The chair was filled by C Caborn captain of the Forest team, Mr T Vallance vice-chair. After the usual loyal toasts, the Chairman gave ‘Success to the Rangers’ which was well received with much honours, and was responded to by Mr T Vallance who said that both he and the Rangers were very pleased to meet the Forest again and trusted that the matches might continue. The remainder of the evening was spent in harmony.
